Scotland, Alexander III (1249-86),silver Penny, Perth Mint, moneyer John Cokin, first coinage (1250-80), voided long cross and stars type VII, thick jewelled crown and sceptre right, legend and outer beaded circle surrounding, +ALEXANDER REX,rev.voided long cross, star of six points in each angle, beaded circles and legend surrounding, IO N CO ON PER, ON ligatured, weight 1.33g (Burns 36 fig.99; SCBI Scottish coins 35:152; S.5047).Toned, obverse a little double struck usual for the type, reverse legend excellent with definitive moneyer mint script, about very fine for issue, reverse a grade higher.

The legend translates as "Alexander King," on the obverse and "John Cokin of Perth" on the reverse.
