Scotland, Alexander III (1249-86), silver Penny, first coinage, long cross and stars (1250-1280), Type III, Perth mint, moneyer John Cokin, crowned profile bust left, small head with neat crown, legend reads +ALEXANDER REX, the ER ligatured, rev. voided long cross, four stars of six points in angles, legend surrounds ION COON P, some letters ligatured, weight 1.30g (SCBI Scottish coins 35:129; -cf. Lockett 740a; Burns 39, fig. 112; S.5043). Toned, reverse somewhat off centre otherwise a bold very fine.

The legend translates as "Alexander King," on the obverse and "John Cokin of Perth" on the reverse.
