Scotland, Alexander III (1249-86), silver Penny, first coinage, long voided cross and stars (1250-1280), Type III, Aberdeen mint, moneyer Alexander, crowned profile bust left, small head with neat crown, legend reads +ALEXANDER REX, the ND ligatured, rev. voided long cross, four stars of six points in angles, legend surrounds ALEX ON ABIRD, weight 1.48g (SCBI 35 [Scottish], 97/a; Lockett 50a; Burns type V, 47, fig. 135; S.5043). Rich cabinet tone, flan irregular at 3 'o clock, reverse somewhat off centre, good very fine, impressive and very rare.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on obverse "Alexander King", and on the reverse as "Alexander at Aberdeen".
