Samuel Fereday, ironmaster.

Samuel Fereday, ironmaster, Bronze Medal by P Wyon, 1814, bust left, SAMUEL FEREDAY, rev A FRIEND TO HIS COUNTRY, within wreath, 50mm (BHM 784). Extremely fine, rare.

Fereday is said to have employed over 5000 workers at his furnaces, and also issued the Priest Field Furnace tokens.

In 1814 his workforce gathered at Ettinghall Park to celebrate the Treaty of Paris. The medal may celebrate the Peace of 1814 or perhaps even hint at some kind of involvement by Fereday in the war effort.
