Sabina, AE As

Sabina (wife of Hadrian), AE As, struck c. A.D. 128. SABINA AVGVSTA HADRIANI AVG P P, diademed and draped bust facing right, rev. S C (in exergue), Ceres seated left on a basket, holding corn-ears and a torch, to left and above, the undertype 'HADRIANV' and the top and back of Hadrian's head visible, 9.47g. (RIC 1023; C 70). Overstruck on an earlier issue of Hadrian, light smoothing in fields, dark patina, good portrait, nearly extremely fine and very interesting.

A fascinating early example of an overstruck issue.
