Philip and Mary Half-Groat
Philip and Mary (1554-58), silver Half-Groat, crowned bust of Queen left, initial mark lis, legend in abbreviated Latin with pellet stops both sides, PHILIP. ET. MARIA. D. G. REX. ET. REGINA, beaded outer border both sides, rev. quartered shield of arms on long cross fourchee, initial mark lis, POSVI M. DEV M. ADIV TO. NOS, weight 1.00g (N.1974; S.2509). Weak in parts with surface marks and light creasing, dark tone around legend, with a good facial portrait of the Queen and very rare as such, almost very fine for issue.
The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Philip and Mary by the Grace of God, King and Queen" and on the reverse "I have made God my helper" a Psalm from the Bible.
