Philip and Mary base issue Penny, im halved rose and castle
Philip and Mary (1554-58), base issue silver Penny, seeded rose, beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark halved rose and castle, P.Z.M. D. G. ROSA. SINE. SPINA., rev. long cross fourchée over quartered shield of arms, CIVI TAS LON DON, weight 0.64g (N.1976; S.2510A). Toned with some porosity from once being in the soil, weakly struck in one quarter otherwise very fine for issue and rare.
The Latin legends on this coin translate as "Philip and Mary, by the grace of God, a rose without a thorn" on the obverse, "City of London" on the reverse.
