Mary (1553-54), silver Groat, crowned bust of Queen left, mint mark pomegranate after first word both sides, legend in abbreviated Latin with annulet stops both sides, MARIA.+. D'. G'. AnG'. FRA'. Z. hIB'. REGI', the Z retrograde, beaded outer border both sides, rev. quartered shield of arms on long cross fourchee, legend surrounding, VERITA S + TEM PORIS FILIA, weight 1.78g (N.1960; S.2492). The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Mary by the Grace of God, Queen of England, France and Ireland" and on the reverse "Truth the daughter of Time."

The mint mark pomegranate follows the Queen's name on Mary's coinages and alludes to the Royal house of Aragon in Spain, through her mother Katherine of Aragon.
