Mary Queen of Scots, Silver Medal, 1579, crowned shield of Scotland, MARIA. DEI. G. SCOTOR. REGINA., rev. a celestial hand prunes a withered vine, VIRESCIT. VVLNERE. VIRTVS +, 28mm (MI i 128/77; cf Eimer 50). Rare, good very fine.

Mary herself embroidered a cushion with this image and motto, Virtue is strengthened by affliction, in 1569. It also featured on a silver-gilt bell belonging to her.
