Marriage of Princess Louise, 1871.

Marriage of Princess Louise to the Marquis of Lorne, 1871, Silver Medal by J S Wyon, conjoined heads left, H. R. H. PRINCESS LOUISE MARQUIS OF LORNE, rev. crowned heraldic shields, date 21 MAR 18-71, 64mm (BHM 2916; Eimer 1613). Minor handling marks to obverse, otherwise extremely fine with rainbow toning to reverse.

Lorne was Governor General of Canada, 25 November 1878 - 23 October 1883, and although at first Canadians objected to their governor being so closely connected to the Royal Family the couple were ultimately well respected in Canadian society particular in the field of the arts.
