L. Livineius Regulus, Silver Denarius

L. Livineius Regulus (42 B.C.), Silver Denarius. Mint of Rome. Head of Livineius Regulus facing right, rev. combat of bestiarii: one combatant attacking a lion with a spear, another, armed with a shield and sword attacks a panther, a wounded bear sits on the left, L. REGVLVS in exergue, 3.95g, 12h (Crawford 494/30; RBW 1735; Sear Imperators 179; Sydenham 1112). Very well-centred and struck for this popular issue, a small metal-flaw on obverse, beautiful old cabinet tone, about extremely fine, an exceptional example.
