James II (1685-88),gold Half-Guinea, 1688, laureate head left, legend surrounding, IACOBVS.II. DEI. GRATIA, rev. crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, date either side of top crown, MAG. BR. FRA. ET. HIB REX. (Schneider -; Bull EGC 342; M.C.E. 135; S.3404).Toned with some light flecking, a little weak of strike at centre of hair, we note no example of this date in the famous Schneider Collection, has been slabbed and graded by PCGS as MS62.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "James the second by the Grace of God," and abbreviated on the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."
