James II 1687 silver Groat, 7 over 6
James II (1685-88), silver Groat, 1687/6, laureate head left, toothed outer border, latin legend reads IACOBVS. II. DEI. GRATIA., rev, crowned mark of value, date in legend, reads MAG. BR. FRA. ET. HIB. REX, weight 2.03g (Bull. 786; ESC.1862; Robinson p.150: 87 (i) S.3414). Possibly artificial tone, otherwise good fine to almost very fine.
The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "James the Second, by the Grace of God," and abbreviated on the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."
The 1685 Threepence and penny are the only small silver coins of this date with no maundy set available.
