James II 1687 Half-Guinea

James II (1685-88),gold Half-Guinea, 1687, laureate head left, legend surrounding, IACOBVS.II. DEI. GRATIA, rev. crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, date either side of top crown, MAG. BR. FRA. ET. HIB REX., weight 3.77g (Schneider 460; Bull EGC 341; M.C.E. 134; S.3404).With plenty of red copper colour in the tone, surface marks, some scratches, otherwise fine.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "James the second by the Grace of God," and abbreviated on the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."

The total output of gold across all four denominations for the calendar year of 1687 was £401,301.
