James II 1685 Shilling, larger garter star variety

James II (1685-88), silver Shilling, 1685, laureate and draped bust left, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, IACOBVS. II. DEI. GRATIA. rev. crowned cruciform shields, larger garter star at centre with bold devices in shields, date either side of top crown, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, .MAG BR. FRA. ET. HIB REX. weight 5.92g (Bull 761 R2; ESC 1068A; S.3190). Toned, quite severe adjustment weakness at French Arms with associated flan flaws, weak at corresponding part of obverse in hair, otherwise a bold very fine.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "James the Second, by the grace of God" and on the reverse, "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland".
