James I (1603-25), silver Halfgroat, second coinage (1604-19), crowned rose, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding both sides, initial mark lis (1604-05) both sides, .I; D; G; ROSA. SINE. SPINA. rev. smaller crown over thistle, TVEATVR. VNITA. DEVS., weight 0.86g (N.2104; S.2659). Dark tone, good very fine.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse, "James, by the grace of God, a rose without a thorn," and on the reverse "May God guard these united."
