Coins derive their value from their rarity, condition, visual appeal and - most importantly – the size of their collector base. Our specialists are experienced at assessing preservation and identifying details that distinguish a common coin from a valuable one.
I have coins to sell, what’s the next step?

What happens if I’m not entirely happy with my purchase?
On bullion products the price of goods are linked to underlying metal prices or financial markets and all sales are final, there are no refunds or exchanges. There is no statutory right to return or cancel an order once placed under the Financial Services (Distance Marketing) Regulations 2004 or Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
However, for non-bullion items, should you be unhappy with your purchase or it is in any way not as described we will accept refunds within 14 days of you receiving your item(s). If uncertain about a purchase, we encourage our clients to ask any questions beforehand so as to minimise the time our valuable coins spend in transit.

James I (1603-25), gold Halfcrown, second coinage, first crowned bust right, beaded circle and legend surrounding, initial mark escallop (1606-07), .I'. D'. G'. ROSA'. SINE'. SPINA., rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, I to left of crown, R to right, beaded circle and legend surrounding, .TVEATVR. VNITA. DEVS. weight 1.27g (Schneider 68; N.2093; S.2629). Weak in parts, flan slightly undulating, some light surface marks, very fine.
The Latin legends translate as "James by the grace of God, a rose without a thorn" on the obverse, and on the reverse as "May God guard these united" in reference to the Kingdoms of England and Scotland.
The crown gold of 22 carat output for this mint mark of escallop from 11th July 1606 until 30th June 1607 is combined with the preceding mint mark of rose at a total of £290,217 worth. The escallop mint mark would seem to be far rarer than the rose suggesting less of this total was for the escallop mark.
Provenance:
Ex Dr Rolf Baumhauer, British gold Collection part 3, Sincona Auction 79, 24th October 2022, lot 1094.
