Jaipur, Nazarana Rupee, in the name of the last Mughal Emperor.

India, Jaipur, Nazarana Silver Rupee, in the name of Sirajuddin Muhammad Bahadur Shah II, AH 1268//8 (sic), 11.41g (KM 95). Toned, extremely fine.

Sirajuddin Muhammad Bahadur Shah II (AH 1253-1273 / 1837-1858 AD) was the last Mughal Emperor. His own purely Mughal coinage is thought to exist only as a very small number of unique pieces minted in Shajahanabad, his nominal capital despite the ultimate rule of the British. This Rupee is from the last Jaipur series to cite a Mughal emperor therefore and from AH 1274 onwards the coinage cites the British monarch along with the Maharajas of Jaipur.
