Ireland, County Offaly, Charleville Forest, bronzed Proof Thirteenpence in copper, 1802, Arms and supporters of the Earl of Charleville, Latin motto on banner below VIRTUS SUB CRUCE CRESCIT (virtue increases under the cross), CHARLEVILLE above, and FOREST below, roped circle with legend and toothed outer border surrounding, date at bottom with floral spray each side, legend INDUSTRY SHALL PROSPER, rev. upright die axis, legend in six lines at centre, floral spray above, wreath below, PAYABLE / AT / TULLAMORE / FIRST TUESDAY / IN EACH / MONTH, legend surrounding with roped inner and toothed outer borders, floral spray at bottom, ONE SHILLING AND ONE PENNY. (D&H 1; Atkins 1). Lovely dark chocolate coloured tone, otherwise as struck and very rare.
