Ireland, John Penny, Dublin, 3rd coinage (1207-11)

Ireland, John as King (1199-1216), silver Penny, third coinage (1207-11), Dublin Mint, moneyer Roberd, crowned bust in triangle with sceptre, pierced quatrefoil to right, legend and beaded border surrounding both sides, IohA / NNES / RE X around triangle, rev. five pointed star over crescent moon within triangle, small sun inside each apex, +ROBE / RD ON / DIVE+, weight 1.12g (D&F 50; S.6228). Rim a little clipped, otherwise well struck, very fine, scarce.

The Latin legends translate as "King John" on the obverse and "Roberd of Dublin" on the reverse.
