Ireland, Elizabeth I Base Groat 1558, REGINA legend

Ireland, Elizabeth I (1558-1603), base silver Groat, first issue (1558), crowned bust left within linear circle, fullest type of legend and outer beaded border surrounding, initial mark rose, ELIZABETH: D: G: ANG: FRA. Z. HIB. REGINA., rev. crowned harp, crowned E to left, crowned R to right, initial mark rose, POSVI: DEVM: ADIVTOREM: MEVM, weight 2.59g (DF 543; S.6504). A little uneven in shape and weak in parts, toned with a little discolouration, a decent little portrait, almost very fine for issue and rare.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Elizabeth by the Grace of God, Queen of England France and Ireland," and on the reverse "I have made God my Helper" a Psalm from the Bible.
