Ireland, Edward IV Groat Waterford

Ireland, Edward IV (1461-83), silver Groat, light coinage (c.1475), Waterford Mint, crowned facing bust within tressure of nine arcs, G on cusp below possibly for Moneyer German Lynch, beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark pierced cross, EDWARDVSx DEIx GRAx DnSx hIBERn', rev. cross pattée, tri-pellets in each angle, two quarters with extra saltire, beaded circles and twin concentric legend surrounding, weight 2.08g (DF 134; S.6351/6351A). Toned, weak in one part of legend with some ghosting of reverse cross onto obverse, a bold very fine and an unrecorded mule of two varieties of obverse and reverse.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Edward by the Grace of God, Lord of Ireland"; and on the reverse outer legend "I have made God my helper," a Psalm from the Bible; and on the inner legend "Town of Waterford."
