Henry VIII (1509-47), gold Half-Sovereign, posthumous issue, Tower Mint, facing crowned robed figure of young boy King on ornate throne, holding orb and sceptre, rose below, Latin legend in name of Henry 8, with Roman lettering and beaded border surrounding, pierced lozenge stops, initial mark arrow, HENRIC:. 8:. D.; G.; AG.; FRAN; Z. HIB; REX:, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, with lion and dragon supporters, HR on banner below, Latin legend with Gothic lettering and beaded border surrounding, IHS; AVTE; TRANSIE; PER: MEDI; ILLOR; IBAT', weight 5.85g (Schneider 645; N.1865; S.2391). Fully round though weakly struck on parts of King's body and throne and corresponding part of reverse, some good residual portrait and upper part of the King, one tiny flan split into rim, otherwise about very fine overall.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Henry by the Grace of God, King of England and France"; and on the reverse "But Jesus, passing through the midst of them, went His way" taken from the Bible.
