Henry VIII Halfgroat Bristol
Henry VIII (1509-47), silver Halfgroat, Bristol Mint, right ¾ facing crowned bust in ruff, beaded circle and Latin legend surrounding, lombardic lettering and pellet and comma stops both sides, xhENnRIC'. 8. D'. G'. AnG'. FRA'. Z. HIB'. REX, rev. long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, trefoils in forks, beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark WS cypher for Mint Master William Sharington, CIVI TAS :: :: BhIS TOLIE, weight 1.18g (N.1851; S.2377). Toned, a little weak at centre, otherwise about very fine and rare.
The Latin abbreviated legend translates as "Henry, by the grace of God, King of England France and Ireland," and on the reverse "City of Bristol."
