Henry VIII Groat
Henry VIII (1509-47), silver Groat, first coinage (1509-26), profile issue, crowned bust right, top breaks inner beaded circle, Latin legend and beaded border surrounding, initial mark castle (1509-13), hEnRIC'x VIII'x DI'x GRA'x REX'x AGL'x Zx FR' rev. long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, POSVI DEV'x A DIVTOR E' mEV' weight 2.68g (N.1762; S.2316). One small chip and a rim split, otherwise toned with a bold portrait, good very fine.
The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Henry VIII by the Grace of God, King of England and France" and on the reverse "I have made God my helper" a Psalm from the Bible.
