Henry VIII (1509-47),gold Half-Sovereign, third coinage (1544-47), Tower Mint, facing crowned robed figure of King on ornate throne, holding orb and sceptre, Tudor rose below, 8 type Latin legend with Lombardic lettering and beaded border surrounding, trefoil stops both sides, mint mark pellet in annulet both sides (1544-47), legend surrounds hEnRIC; 8; D; G; ΛGL; ++ FRAnCIE ;Z; hIB; REX, rev.crowned quartered shield of arms, with lion and dragon supporters, HR ligatured on banner below, Latin legend with Gothic lettering and beaded border surrounding, Ihs; ΛVTE; TRΛnSIEnS; PER; mED; ILLORV; IBΛT, sleeve and trefoil stops, annulet under last B of legend on inner circle, weight 5.97g (cf.Schneider 617; Whitton type II(b); N.1827; S.2294). Two tiny rim nicks, otherwise some pleasing overall detail though flat in parts, bold fine with a decent Royal figure for a notoriously weakly stuck issue.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Henry by the Grace of God, King of England and France" and on the reverse "But Jesus, passing through the midst of them, went His way" taken from the Bible.
