Henry VII (1485-1509),silver Groat, type I, London Mint, facing crowned bust in double tressure of nine arcs, open crown, fleurs on six cusps, larger fleur on cusp below neck, cross either side of neck, beaded circle and Latin legend surrounding, initial mark rose on obverse (1485-88), saltire stops, hEnRIC'x DI'x GRA'x REXxx AGL'x Zx FRAnCx',rev.long cross pattée, tri-pellets in each inner angle, beaded circles and twin concentric legend surrounding, inner legend CIVI TAS LOn DOn, outer legend surrounding commencing with small cross, +POSVIxx DEVmxx A DIVTOR E' mEVm, weight 2.81g (Potter and Winstanley die 6; N.1703; S.2194).Toned, slight die clash evident, with a clear portrait, a bold very fine, rare variety.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse, "Henry, by the grace of God, King of England and France." and on the reverse inner legend "City of London" and the outer as "I have made God my helper" a Psalm from the Bible.
This unusual coin has rose initial mark on obverse only with small cross like those either side of the neck, at the start of the reverse legend. The lettering seems a little larger than then other class I issues too.
