Henry V (1413-21), gold Quarter-Noble, muled with a Henry VI annulet issue reverse, London Mint, obverse Henry V class G, lis over quartered shield of arms, initial mark pierced cross, double linear tressure of eight arcs surrounding, plain cusps, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, mullet after first word, reads + hЄnRIC* DIo GRΛo RЄXo ΛnGL, annulet stops, rev. lis at centre of ornate cross with small lis terminals, tri-pellets attached to inner compartment, lions in angles, double linear tressure of eight arcs surrounding, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, initial mark lis, mullet after first word struck over an annulet, + ЄXΛLTΛBITVR* Ino GLORIΛ, weight 1.66g (Schneider 267/cf.295-7; Stewartby p.322 type H; N.1384/1420; S.1758/1815). Toned on a full flan with a centred strike, pleasing and intricate details throughout, an extremely rare mule die pairing, an obverse die of Henry V paired with an annulet issue reverse of Henry VI, very fine, extremely rare.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Henry by the Grace of God, King of England" and on the reverse "He shall be exalted in glory" a Psalm from the bible.

Provenance:

Ex Dr Rolf Baumhauer, British Collection part 3, Sincona, Auction 79, 24th October 2022, lot 1038 where incorrectly catalogued as Henry V only and was previously slabbed by NGC as XF45 certification 2130707-032.
