Henry III brockage
Henry III (1216-72), silver voided long cross Penny, obverse brockage strike, crowned facing bust, well proportioned, good central fleur de lis to crown, pellet ends either side of crown, class 5b2, legend surrounding commencing upper left, hENRICVS REX III. Weight 1.40g (N.992/2; S.1368A). Toned very fine and very unusual.
Brockage strikes are very unusual to see as they occur occasionally when a flan being struck adheres, usually to the obverse die, and the next flan that is introduced to the dies leaves an impression of its obverse on what was the reverse of the stuck coin. We would assume not many like this would make it into circulation.
