Harthacanute Penny Dover, Cinstan

Harthacanute (1035-42), silver Penny, Dover Mint, Moneyer CINSTAN, diademed bust left with arm and sceptre, legend commences at top in full name, +HARD CNVT, rev pellet at centre of quadrilateral with pellets on apexes, all over short voided cross which meets inner linear circle, legend and outer beaded border surrounding, +CINSTAN ON DOFR'E (N.811; S.1168). Slight striking crack each side, evidence of metal starvation on reverse in lower left quadrant corresponding with tie knot of diadem on obverse, otherwise a pleasing very fine coin with a good provenance, also the only example we can trace in private ownership of this Moneyer and Mint, very rare.
