Gupta, Kumaragupta I, Gold Dinar.

Gupta Empire, Kumaragupta I (414-455), gold Dinar, horseman type, legend Prithivitalasvarendra Ku(maragupto jayatyajitah) partly visible around nimbate king, holding bow, riding right on caparisoned horse, rev. AJITAMAHENDRAH, the goddess Lakshmi seated left on wicker stool holding flower and feeding grapes to a standing peacock, 8.24g (Allan Class II, variety a, cf. plate XIII, 14-15). Occasional edge-marks, very fine, scarce.

8.24 grams of 22 carat gold. Made in India.

"Kumaragupta, a veritable Indra on the surface of the earth, invincible, conquers (his enemies)".
