George VI (1936-52), gold proof Two Pounds, 1937, bare head left, initials HP below truncation for engraver Humphrey Paget, Latin legend and outer border surrounding, GEORGIVS VI D:G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP:, rev. St. George and dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue for designer Benedetto Pistrucci, edge plain (Sch. 671; WR 437; Hill T46; S.4075). Some light surface marks on obverse, otherwise brilliant as struck, graded by PCGS as PR65.

These plain edge Proof gold Five Pounds were produced to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI on the 12thMay 1937 as part of gold Proof sets, with a mintage of 5,501 pieces, they were technically patterns as they did not have a milled edge like earlier gold Two Pounds of other reigns.
