George VI (1936-52),proof Halfcrown, 1937, struck in 0.500 silver, bare head left, tiny HP below truncation for engraver T. Humphrey Paget, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX, rev.struck en medaille, quartered shield of arms with suspension above, crowned interlinked Gs either side, K beneath left side of shield, G below right side for engraver Kruger Gray, denomination and date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, FID: DEF: : IND: IMP, edge milled (Bull 4035; ESC 787; S.4080).Practically as struck, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as PF65+.
NGC Certification 5880706-004.
Mintage 25,000 pieces.
The Latin legend translates as "George the Sixth by the grace of God, King of all the Britons," on the obverse, following on the reverse with "Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India."
We note at time of writing of the 105 pieces graded by NGC only 32 grade higher than this piece. For comparison PCGS have graded 153 pieces of which only 50 are superior.
