George VI (1936-52),gold four coins Proof Set, 1937, Coronation year, gold Five Pounds, Two Pounds, Sovereign and Half-Sovereign, all with bare head of King left, HP raised below for designer Humphrey Paget, legend and outer border surrounding, GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP:,rev.St George and dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue, all with plain edges (S.PS15).A nice matching set with gold lightly hairlined, small rim nick on half sovereign, perhaps once lightly wiped, otherwise brilliant and practically as it was issued.
Mintage 5,501 sets.
The Latin legend on the obverse translates as "George the Sixth, by the grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India."
These plain edge Proof coins were produced to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI on the 12thMay 1937, with a mintage of 5,501 pieces, they were technically patterns as they did not have milled edges
