George V (1910-36),gold Sovereign, 1931 SA, Pretoria, South Africa Mint, second smaller bare head left, B.M. on truncation, GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:,rev. struck en médaille, St George slaying dragon with sword, WWP under lance, Mint letters SA at centre of ground-line, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue (Bentley 930; Kaplan 108; Hill 295; Bull EGC 1928; S.4005).Toned, has been slabbed and graded by PCGS as MS64.

PCGS certification 563095.64/81822131.

We note as of February 2026 that PCGS have graded a total of 506 examples of the 1931 SA Sovereign of which 37 are finer than this piece. For comparison NGC have graded 605 piece of which 61 are finer. This is a total of 1,111 pieces graded with 98 finer.

Calendar year mintage 8,511,792.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "George the Fifth by the Grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India."
