George V 1917 Halfcrown
George V (1910-36), silver Halfcrown, 1917, bare head left, legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, within French garter with motto HONI SOIT. QVI MAL. Y PENSE., date either side of garter buckle at bottom, HALF to left, CROWN to right, Latin legend continues in upper half, FID: DEF: IND: IMP:, weight 14.18g (Bull 3716; ESC 764; S.4011). Lightly toned, some light surface marks, a pleasing extremely fine.
The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "George the Fifth by the Grace of God, King of all the Britons" and abbreviated on the reverse as "Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India."
