George V 1911 Sovereign, PF64, ex Clapp and Eliasberg

George V (1910-36), gold Proof Sovereign, 1911, bare head left, with raised BM for Bertram Mackennal on truncation, legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX F. D. IND: IMP:, rev. St George and dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue, edge milled (Bentley 356; WR 416; S.3996). Toned over underlying proof brilliance, some light marks in toning, otherwise practically as struck, becoming scarce in the UK market place, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as PF64 with the Eliasberg provenance on the label.

NGC certification 4923262-001.

The legends translate across both sides of these denominations as "George the Fifth by the grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India."

Provenance:

Ex John H. Clapp Collection, (collector since 1902), sold gold coin collection privately to Louis E. Eliasberg Senior on 4th February 1942 in a $100,000 transaction.
