George IV (1820-30), gold Sovereign, 1821, first laureate head left, B.P. below neck, legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F:D:, rev. die axis slightly off-centre, St George and dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue for designer and engraver Benedetto Pistrucci, raised WWP on ground line below lance for Master of the Mint William Wellesley Pole (Bentley 12; MCE 471; Bull EGC 959; Hill 5; S.3800). Toned, with hairline across neck, some other light marks and spots, slabbed and graded by NGC as MS65, the finest we have handled.

NGC Certification 8220511-012 - as of November 2024 this coin is the joint finest graded with two other example out of 215 graded of this date. Nothing is graded higher at PCGS either with 128 assessed of which seven are also MS65.

Calendar year mintage 5,356,787.

The Latin legends translate to on obverse "George the Fourth by the Grace of God, King of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
