George IV (1820-30),gold Half Sovereign, 1821, laureate head left, B.P. below truncation for engraver Benedetto Pistrucci, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F: D:,rev.first crowned quartered shield of arms with a crowned escutcheon of the Arms of Hanover centre dividing date ANNO 1821, edge milled, weight 3.96g (Bull EGC 988 R3; Hill 403 R3; S.3802).Toned with surface marks, graded by NGC as MS62, rare and a one year only type, very rare.

Calendar year mintage 231,288.
The Latin legend translates as "George the Fourth by the Grace of God, King of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
Due to the very similar design of the Sixpence for the new coinage of 1821 it became quickly evident that the unscrupulous in society were gilding the Sixpence to pass as the gold Half-Sovereign. Therefore the mintage was halted at the relatively low figure of 231,288 pieces until a new reverse design could be produced which did not appear as currency until 1823.
