George III 1820 Sovereign MS62, open 2 neat arrangement final year in reign
George III (1760-1820), gold Sovereign, 1820, open 2, neat date arrangement under second laureate head right, finer engraved hair, ascending colon in legend, rev. St. George and the Dragon right with broken lance, weight 7.99g (Schneider 630; Marsh 4; M.C.E. 466; Bentley 7; S.3785C). Lightly hairlined both sides with some tiny scuffs evident, strong residual mint lustre, graded by NGC as MS62.
NGC Certification 5783343-003.
Calendar year mintage 931,994.
The Latin legend on the obverse translates as "George the Third by the Grace of God, King of the Britons, Defender of the Faith", and the Old French legend on the reverse Garter as "Shame on he who thinks ill of it".
