George III (1760-1820), gold Half Guinea, 1811, seventh laureate head right, legend surrounding, GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA,rev.quartered shield of arms with crowned escutcheon of the arms of Hanover, all within crowned garter, French legend on garter HONI. SOIT. QUI. MAL. Y. PENSE., date below, legend commences upper right, BRITANNIARUM REX FIDEI DEFENSOR (Schneider -; Selig -; Bull EGC 857 R4; MCE 447; S.3737).The rarest date for the Half Guinea in this final type for George III, some light wear to high points and hairlines, nick on cheek, graded by NGC as AU55, no example present in the Schneider or Selig collections, very rare.
NGC Certification 8221631-001.
The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George III by the grace of God" and on the reverse "King of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
We note the gold output for the calendar year of 1811 totalled £312,263 which was presumably used for Half and Third Guineas only, both being today extremely rare dates.
