George III (1760-1820), gold Third Guinea, 1803, second type, first laureate head right, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA. rev. large crown, date below crown, legend surrounding commencing at top, + BRITANNIARUM REX FIDEI DEFENSOR, weight 2.79g (Schneider 625; Bull EGC 873; MCE 455; S.3739). Toned, extremely fine, the last year for the type.
The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George III by the grace of God" and on the reverse "King of the Britains, Defender of the Faith,"
The gold output for calendar year 1803 was a mere £596,445 which was devoted to Half and Third Guinea production only.
