The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George III by the grace of God" and on the reverse "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland." The 1800 dated coins represent the last time the claim to the French throne is included in the Latin titles, no doubt as the Act of Union with Ireland giving the United Kingdom was enacted in 1801.
The 1800 Maundy Penny is an important coin for the connoisseur of the octagonal countermark series as the maundy penny punch is the design used for the octagonal counterstamp.
