George III 1799 Third Guinea of Seven Shillings, first type, first bust rare date
George III (1760-1820), gold Third Guinea, 1799, first type, first laureate head right, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA., rev. large crown, date in legend surrounding commencing at lower left, . MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX., weight 2.80g (Schneider 624; Bull EGC 869; MCE 451; S.3738). Toned, with surface marks and light hairline scratches otherwise very fine to good very fine and extremely rare, the hardest date of this type of Third Guinea to find, the second rarest date of the denomination.
The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George III by the grace of God" and on the reverse "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."
The gold output for calendar year 1799 was £449,962 which is the lowest of the spade guinea period.
