MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX. weight 2.81g (Schneider -; Bull EGC 867; MCE 449; S.3738).Lightly toned, some hairlines, good very fine, the first year for the denomination.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "George the Third by the Grace of God", and on the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."

The calendar year output of gold totalled £2,000,297 for 1797 which would have been spread across production of Guineas, Half-Guineas and the newly introduced Third-Guinea for this date.
