George III (1760-1820),silver Penny, 1781, young laureate and draped bust left, legend surrounds, GEORGIVS. III. DEI. GRATIA.,i.crowned mark of value, date either side of crown, crown with extra jewels in band, legend reads MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX., weight 0.47g (Bull.2296; ESC.2360; Robinson p.160:270 type 1B; S.3759). Softly struck with obverse haymarking, a bold very fine.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "George III by the Grace of God," and on reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"
The 1781 Penny is the only small silver coin of this date there being no maundy set available.
