George III 1776 pattern Third-Guinea by Yeo PF63 CAMEO
George III (1760-1820), gold Pattern Third Guinea of Seven Shillings, 1776, laureate head right, legend surrounding, GEORGIVS. III. DEI. GRATIA., rev. slightly off centre from en medaille, crowned lion standing left on large crown with caul, date either side at top, legend surrounding, MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX., edge plain, weight 2.83g (WR 137 R3; EGC 884 R2; Douglas-Morris 78; Montagu 552; Murdoch 169/170; Nobleman 21). Toned practically as struck, some light hairlines and short black streak on reverse, from the year of the American War of Independence, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as PF63 Cameo and rare.
NGC Certification 6340069-009.
The Latin legends translate to on obverse "George the Third by the Grace of God" continuing on the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland" a departure from the much longer abbreviated titles seen on the regular guinea series coinage of this time.
