George III (1760-1820),silver Penny, 1770, young laureate and draped bust left, legend surrounds, GEORGIVS. III. DEI. GRATIA.,rev.crowned mark of value, date either side of crown, legend reads MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX., weight 0.49g (Bull.2290; ESC.2355; Robinson p.160:254; S.3759). Light amber tone, a bold very fine for issue with slight die clash showing vertically on head.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "George III by the Grace of God," and on reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland

The 1770 Fourpence, Threepence and Penny are the only small silver coins of this date there being no maundy set available.
