George III (1760-1820),silver Twopence, 1765, young laureate and draped bust right, legend surrounds, GEORGIVS. III. DEI. GRATIA.,rev.crowned mark of value, date either side of crown, legend reads .MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX., weight 0.97g (Bull.2272. R3; ESC.2239; Robinson p.160:247; S.3756).Good very fine, toned, extremely rare, the key date in the series.

NGC Certification 8220388-004

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "George III by the Grace of God," and on reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."

Robinson notes there was a delivery to the Mint Office on 27th March 1765 of 808 Twopences, 537 Threepences and 310 Fourpences, which if it is assumed they were all dated 1765 is the total output for this year of the small silver.

There are no silver pennies of this date and therefore no maundy sets.
