George III 1764 Guinea XF45, no stop above second head

George III (1760-1820),gold Guinea, 1764, no stop over second laureate head right, legend GEORGIVS. III DEI. GRATIA., toothed border around rim both sides,rev.crowned quartered shield of arms, date either side of crown, legend M.B.F.ET.H. REX. F.D.B. ET.L.D.S.R.I.A.T ET.E., weight 8.35g (Schneider -; Bull EGC 674 R; MCE 369; Farey 1040 R; S.3726).Toned, with some lustre in legends, surface marks, wear and hairlines, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as XF45 and rare.

The Latin legends translate to on obverse "George the Third by the Grace of God" continuing on the reverse in abbreviated Latin which if in shown in full reads "Magnae Britanniae Franciae et Hiberniae Rex Fidei Defensor Brun et Lunebergen-sis Dux, Sacri Romani Imperii Archi-Thesaurius et Elector" and translates as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire."

The total output of gold for the calendar year of 1764 was £843,153, one of the lower amounts for the reign, where later years in the spade type guineas run to over three million pounds, with the peak year actually in the fourth head type for 1776 with just over five million pounds produced.

During the 1764 issue the stop over the head disappears, and is omitted throughout the third and fourth head issues till 1786.
